Brass Landscapes
Martha Sturdy’s Brass Landscapes are inspired by nature, particularly her surrounding environment of coastal British Columbia. Sturdy constructs these undulating landscapes with heavy brass which she manipulates into dynamic shapes.
The fluidity of these forms reflects a constantly changing environment, using the language of abstraction to capture the elements of movement found in nature. Each sculpture serves as a reference to both the impermanence and the resilience of the landscape, encouraging viewers to more closely observe and reflect upon the inherent subtleties of the natural world.
