Brass Landscapes

Martha Study’s Brass sculpture art radiates a unique character, a larger-than-life personality born of the artist’s sharp insights into life and nature and her willingness to let her materials speak for themselves.

Martha constructs her undulating Landscapes with heavy brass which she manipulates into dynamic shapes at her studio in Vancouver, BC Canada. Under her guidance the brass has the effect of movement and undulation, with the empty spaces being as important as the space being taken up.

The richness of the brass is a contradiction to the minimalism of her sculptures, and the overall effect being one of rich austerity. Martha makes each piece by hand, finishing them with her signature patina.
